What do you think about the above quote, would you agree with it or disagree? For once I agree with it, well other than the fact that I am literally a desperate writer because I tend to start writing my assignments at the last moment, in the sense that whenever one starts writing it is a never-ending process. Even after they are done writing, they will always find something to fix or improve upon. Well, looking at all the assignments I have done over the semester, I seem to always find something to improve even the ones I have a full score. It is the feeling to improve or make it perfect, but what is perfect no one knows. That is the I have regarding my assignments. I felt like in some assignments I should have changed my tone and the way my writing pieces play out. In other cases, I felt that the writing styles should have been simpler or expressed my mind in simple words rather than “elegant” words. Even now I am contemplating why I put quotations on elegant or why did I use the word “contemplating” when I could have just used wondering or thinking. What I have learned from this semester or more narrowed down to from this English class is that writing is not about using complicated words and making them sound sophisticated but expressing your mind and heart in a simple form that can be read and understood by all. I know some readers might be saying what I had done in my primary education or school. But in my defense in primary education especially in NYC, we are geared toward writing complicated critical thinking or something related to its type of writing and yes it took me until now to realize the truest form of writing is keeping it simple. This semester or during the English course I have used the eight-course learning objectives repeatedly throughout my assignments. For instance, 1) Exploring and analyzing in writing and reading, were used in all my assignments to find the topics I was interested to write about and narrow it down to the one I thought was a good topic and the articles or pieces of evidence that will go with it. 2) Developing strategies for reading, drafting collaborating, revising, and editing was accomplished not just by me, but due to the time provided by the professor to work on the writing pieces and make them a better piece. 3) Recognize and practice key rhetorical terms and strategies, that were used to keep the readers engaged in my writing pieces with quotes to attract, humor to prevent the assignments from being a one-sided boring reading, and asking questions and comparing real-life events to keep the readers involved to the thesis of the assignments. 4) Engage in collaborative and social aspects of writing processes, while writing my assignments there were times, I was not able to write or come up with the next lines or the existing lines or words were not good enough, and in times like this, I got help from my peers who read my paper or my writing direction and gave me ideas to improve my writing. My peers also helped me in shaping my writing style and fine-tuned my rough writing pieces. 5) Understand and use print and digital technologies to edit my work using Microsoft and Grammarly were a great help in my spelling and grammar. Also, printing drafts helped in handing in my assignments. 6) Locate research sources, this was done by using the CUNY database which was helpful in the sense that in some sources it was free and sign-up hassle-free. 7) Composing texts that integrate your stance with appropriate sources, was used in many of the assignments however it was greatly used in the argumentative thesis where evidence was needed and explained to support my thesis. 8) Practice systematic application of citation. Conventions, this was kind of hard for me because I kept mixing a scientific research paper method or APA format and MLA format together. This led to many of my papers having the wrong way of citation. In the end, I would say this, writing is a long process, and you will always learn something new while writing. The greatest writer I believe is the one who thinks he/she is the worst, and always finds an excuse to improve their work.
